Τι σημαίνει πραγματικά ένα χειροποίητο κερί;
The word “handmade” is often used.
But what does it really mean?
A handmade candle is not simply a candle made without a machine. It is the result of a process in which a person plays an active role — from choosing the materials to the final details of the creation.
And that is precisely where the difference lies.
Creation begins with the raw materials
Every candle begins with a choice.
The type of wax, the fragrance, the wick, and the vessel are not independent elements.
They need to work together.
Finding the right formula and testing different combinations are part of the process before a creation reaches someone’s hands.
The wick is not a minor detail
It is perhaps one of the most important elements of a candle.
The wick’s size and type must be suited to the candle’s formula, size, and vessel.
This means testing.
And testing again.
Because a candle’s beautiful appearance is only the beginning. The real experience comes when it burns properly.
Fragrance needs balance
A scented candle is not simply wax with fragrance added to it.
The amount, composition, and way the fragrance is incorporated into the base all affect the final experience.
The goal is not necessarily the greatest intensity.
It is the right balance.
A fragrance should be present in a space without becoming overpowering.
It should create an atmosphere without imposing itself.
The process takes time
Handcrafting means giving every stage the attention it needs.
Preparation.
Selecting and measuring the materials.
Making the candle.
Placing the wick.
The cooling process.
Testing.
The final inspection.
There is no single magic step that makes a good candle.
There is a series of small decisions that need to be made correctly.
Small differences are part of the creation
When something is made by hand, it is not necessarily exactly identical to every other piece.
Small variations in the surface or appearance can be a natural part of the handcrafted process.
This does not mean a lack of quality.
It means there is a human process behind the object.
What this means for Kéros
At Kéros, we are not interested in using the word “handmade” simply because it sounds nice.
We care about knowing why each choice is there.
Why this wax?
Why this fragrance?
Why this wick?
Why this form?
Why does this object deserve a place in your space?
For us, handcrafted creation is more a way of approaching the process.
Not overlooking the details.
Testing.
Making adjustments.
Testing again.
And ultimately, leaving only what truly has a reason to exist.
Because with a handmade object, it should not be only the hand that made it that shows.
The thought behind it should show, too.
